Measles:
Symptoms: Two or three days from inception there is cold, sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, watery eyes, pain (on temples, backside and whole body), cough, hoarseness, and fever. On the fourth day there are pimply eruptions on the face, throat and body. After a few more days both measles and temperature disappear. After recovery, some patients suffer from cough, weakness, diarrhea, urticaria, ophthalmia, otorrhea, etc. The disease attacks mainly children.
Treatment: Makaradhwaja with extract of kantikari- roots, and honey; and ½ pill of Brihat Guruchyadi Lauha. If after recovery there is cough, phlegm or heart complaints, give Chyavanpras with cow milk. If there is diarrhoea and urticaria, give Mahagandhak with extract of Cyperus rotundas and honey. This is a good medicine for all kinds of stomach troubles of children. For ophthalmia and otorrhea, see later pages. Anti-pox-pills can always be used.
Diet: Sago, barley, arrowroot, soda water, milk, grapes, apples, pomegranate, cocoanut water, etc. while there is fever. After symptoms have vanished, give a light but nourishing diet.
