Dysentery and Blood Dysentery:
Cause: Abnormal phlegm and blood due to unbalanced diet and pleasures. When there is mucus or blood with the stools, it is called dysentery or blood dysentery.
Symptoms : Insufficient excreta mixed with either mucus or blood, griping pain in the lower abdomen before, during, or after bowel motions.
Treatment : Kutajarista at dawn and after sunset.. Brihat Siddha Praneswar at 8 a. m., and before sunset give Pijusballi Ras. This prescription will cure all kinds of dysentery. Kutajabaleha and Rasanjanadi Bati may also be used to cure dysentery. The bark of holarrhena antidys enterica is excellent.
Diet: In general the same as for dyspepsia since it is a kind of dyspepsia. If there is blood in the stool, the drinking of plantaga avatar with hollyhock seeds is recommended. In chronic cases goat’s milk is advised. Curd prepared as a drink with the molasses of sugar cane, baked marmelos fruit, and a beverage made from puffed rice are excellent for dysentery patients. After the worst symptoms have subsided, a bitter soup of paederia foetida and helencha leaves with rice may be tried. If the rice is agreeable to the stomach, this menu can be served twice a day. Ambali leaves, tamarind leaves, raisins mixed in sour juice, trichosanthes dioica, small eggplants, figs, and green bananas are all excellent for dysentery.
