Dysmenorrhea
Causes: Immoderate menstrual discharges, abortion, sexual debility.
Symptoms: Pain in the waist and lower abdomen spreading to spine and whole body; weakness, headache, giddiness, loss of appetite, retching, scanty flux, etc. The symptoms increase on the full and dark moon and at the menstrual flow. A slight cold or constipation increases the symptoms immoderately. The limbs burn, diarrhea rages (sometimes with flatulence and acidity), restlessness mounts, and the patient rolls on the floor in pain.
Treatment: Abalabandhab Jog with the juice of the bark of peterospermum aserifalium. This medicine, and Asokarista, Saribadi Salsa, and Saribadi Bati are excellent for this disease. Rajaprasadani Bati is also to be used. If the disease is chronic, do not prescribe medicines that will bring sudden excessive discharge of blood. Mild medicines like Falakalyan Ghrita or Kumarkalyan Ghrita are then better. Usually there is excessive gas; for this, prescribe Brihat Bat Chintamani. If the head feels hot, massage it with Trisati Prasarani Taila. For burning soles and palms, give Brihat Guruchyadi Taila on affected places. For bad diarrhea, use Maharaj Nripatiballav and Sree Madanananda Modak, and for flatulence, Bhaskar Lavan and Mahasankha Bati, and for acidity, Dhatri Lauha. Dysmenorrhea is painful and dangerous. The patient can’t conceive, and if there has been conception, it is spoiled by miscarriage. Many women suffer in tearful silence, fearing to divulge the truth. They try to perform all housework’s. But they should have preventive and nervine tonics for this condition just as men have for their sex weaknesses. Asoke Ghrita, Kshirkalyan Ghrita, Some Ghrita, Kumar Kalpadrum Ghrita, Asokarista, etc. are all preventives and tonics. Any one or two of the above tonics should be enough to keep the health good with painless menstruation and beautiful complexion.
Diet for female disease: Shali rice (old stock); musuri, mugh, gram, and arahar lentil soups; magur, shingi, and kai fishes; trichosanthes dioica, aram, green banana, eggplant, kernel of banana stem, gourd, vegetables cooked in ghee, mutton, memordiva charantia, karala, tender part of rattan plant, helencha leaves, and as much milk as possible. Mashkalai, sesame seeds, curd, acid foods, and much salt should be given up.
