How To Treat Syphilis In Ayurved

Syphilis:

Cause:  Cohabitation with syphilitics.

Symptoms:

First Stage: appearance of a pimple on the penis within from 10 to 45 days of the contact. The pimple gradually becomes big, sensitive, and painful. It develops as a sore from which pus oozes out. As the sore gets larger, the penis becomes putid, and the patient has either slow or high temperature.

Second Stage: anemia and emaciation, eruptions on the body, pains in the arms, sore tonsils, swollen joints, eye diseases.

Third Stage: Infections on any part of the body but usually on skin, mucous membrane, nerves and brain. The whole body may be covered with small pimples which develop as sores (painful). Rheumatism, swelling of arms and feet, heart troubles, nervous debility, tuberculosis, nasal sores, mouth sores, rectal sores, etc. may appear at this time. The nasal sore is dangerous as it may remove part of the nose. The testicles become hard, and there is no strength for fornication. Women stricken with this disease have ovary troubles and weak conceptive faculties. There may be abortion at the fifth or sixth month. The baby of syphilitic parents may be still-born. If alive, it will suffer from syphilitic nasal sores and emaciation; its color will gradually darken, and copper-colored pimples will show up on the lower loins, around the rectum, and over the whole body. Marks are observed on the neck, throat, and joints. Sores appear inside and outside the mouth, lips and nose break out, and the rest of the skin becomes dry. If not well-treated, such a child may soon die, and if he lives, his life will be hardly worth-living.

Treatment : With water boiled in azadirachata and with a decoction of trifala wash the sores twice daily. Afterwards put a piece of cloth over the sores smeared with Santi Malam or Sadhana Malam. See that the sores remain clean and the penis unswollen. Do not expose the sores. Saribadi Salsa, Saribadi Bati, and Manikya Ras will be found most helpful. Saribadi Salsa is to be taken morning and evening, and Manikya Ras with milk, cream and sugar candy is to be taken at noon. If taken regularly for an extended period, these medicines will cure the disease. When the sores, boils, and pimples have subsided considerably but the sores of nose, mouth, and lips have become chronic, give Saribadi Salsa in the morning, Manikya Ras at noon, and Anantadya Ghrita with warm milk at evening. In the second and third stages Brihat Marichyadi Taila should be massaged. Saribadi Salsa alone has been found to cure the disease, but it must be continued for a long time. Patience is needed. Some patients do not require external treatment; for them oral medicines are enough. If any part of the body seems inert or paralytic, rub the part for one hour twice daily, morning and evening, with Hangsadi Ghrita. If in the third stage the lungs or heart is attacked with phlegm or tuberculosis, use Panchatikta Ghrita Guggulu with hot milk. When there is diarrhoea and dysentery, Pijusballi Ras with honey and extract of cyperus rotundus is to be taken. If there is swooning or spasm, give Brihat Chhagaladya Ghrita or Mahachaitas Ghrita with hot cow milk. For fever use Sarbajwara Bati; for constipation use Kosthasuddhi Batika; and for indigestion or loss of appetite, give Bhaskar Lavan or Mahasankha Bati with hot water after each meal.

Diet: Sunned rice, bread, luchi, gram and mugh lentils, trichosanthes dioica, beans, potatoes, flower of banana, figs, cauliflowar, kernel of the stem of banana plant, vegetables cooked in ghee, bitter leaves, milk, and ghee. Vegetables cooked in oil, strong and pungent foods, curd, curd water, acids, oil massage, daytime sleeping, staying awake at night, heat of sun or fire, exercise, suppression of urine and stools must be avoided. Bathing should be with hot water. N.B. The syphilitic patients who for fear and shame do not divulge their disease to their guardians and go without proper treatment do themselves injury. The disease cannot be suppressed; in the long run it manifests itself to the public. It is better to be treated voluntarily before the health is ruined and all enjoyment lost. It is a curable disease, and if the above treatment is followed, it will be easily cured. So the patient must make it known to the doctor.
