Tastelessness:
Nothing tastes good in spite of hunger. This condition usually accompanies other ailments. When no food is relished, the health deteriorates rapidly. Chronic fever, dysentery, dyspepsia, indigestion, constipation, and loss of appetite usually bring on tastelessness. Search the specific cause of the tastelessness and treat. When tastelessness remains though the causal condition is removed, medicines may be given for tastelessness. Monotony of diet and old age can cause tastelessness.
Treatment: If the main ailment is removed, but the tastelessness remains, give Amladya Jog, Sudhanidhi- Ras, Kalahansa, Sulochanavra, etc. The same medicines (one or two) may be used when an aged person has tastelessness. Lack of taste is usually due to lack of hunger. To stimulate the appetite, give Bhaskar Lavan, Mahasankha Bati, Brihat Agnikumar Ras, Maharaj Nripatiballav, Bajrakshar, etc.
Diet: Tasteful foods and drinks, a variety of sauces (both sweet and sour), rice (old stock), mugh and masuri lentils, grams, hing, hilsa, puthi, khalisha, kai and rui fish, fish roe, gourd, patal, palta, small radishes, other vegetables, mutton, or venison soup, milk, ghee, curd, lemon, camphor, myrobalan, sugar, ginger, and kamranga.
