Treatment Of Digestive Disorders- Chronic Dyspepsia In Ayurveda

Chronic Dyspepsia:

Cause: Careless treatment of dyspepsia and careless selection of foods makes the dyspepsia chronic. This is a serious disease. In it one cannot enjoy good food even if one has the urge. In acute dyspepsia the stomach at times forms gas and is able to absorb food, but in chronic dyspepsia this is not possible and the patient necessarily becomes emaciated.

Treatment: Siddha Makaradhwaja in the morning, Bhaskar Lavan after meal at noon, trifala juice and Chintamani Chaturmukh at evening, and Mahagni Ras at night. If there is no constipation, use Mahasankha Bati at noon instead of Bhaskar Lavan. Brihat Grahanimihir Taila should be rubbed on the stomach morning and evening.

Diet: Complete fasting in serious cases. Later on, light foods such as barley, and arrowroot may be given. When digestion begins, serve well-cooked rice (old stock), fresh fish soup, patal, eggplant, green banana, paederia foetida, other vegetables, curd, and lemon. When there is strong hunger, rice may be given also at night. Water should be drunk 2 or 3 hours after meals; cold water drinking just after rising from bed in the morning is excellent practice. In Ayurveda it is called Ushapan. Walking and free-hand exercise are also good in the morning.
