Treatment Of Hysteria In Ayurved

Hysteria:

Causes: High blood pressure, scanty blood, worry, grief, uterine disorders, dysmenorrhea, inability to enjoy sex life, faulty heredity, etc. This disease occurs more among women than among men.

Symptoms: Much like epilepsy except that the face is not distorted, the eyes are not dilated, and there is no foaming at the mouth.

Treatment:  Rasaraj Ras, Aswagandharista, Krisna Chaturmukh, Mahachaitas Ghrita, or Nakuladya Ghrita. If the hysteria is due to uterine troubles, first treat for them with Aalabandhab Jog. Where there is painful dysmenorrhea, add Badhakari Bati to the treatment. If, in addition to these Asokarista or Asoke Ghrita is used, the results may be superb. Santi Bati again is good for all hysterias.

Diet: Stimulants and nutritious foods. Strong, pungent, acid, and harsh are not allowed. The patient should be relieved of mental agonies: fear, anger, grief, etc. At the time of attack the patient should be laid flat with head up. His clothes should be loosened and his face fanned. Take care that he does not injure himself in cramping. Hold him tight. See that his tongue is not cut when he clenches his teeth, by inserting a cloth in the mouth. Staying awake at night, idleness, and passion are all harmful.
