MALFORMATIONS AND INFLAMMATIONS.
Leprosy:
Causes: Excess air, bile, and phlegm causing impurities of blood, flesh, lymph, and skin.
Symptoms: Painful red inflammations at the start, later becoming wounds. In the wounds there is burning sensation, tickling, itching, and feeling as if an ant were moving inside. For any simple cause the sores may appear; they last a long time, and though healed, remain on the body as black spots. Many think that the disease is incurable, but experts know that it is not incurable, though the cure in some cases may take a long time.
Treatment : Saribadi Salsa, Manikya Ras with ghrita, sugar, and honey; Kustha Kalanal Ras with juice of menispermum glabrum, and honey; and Galatkusthari Ras with milk. These medicines can be used without hesitation or consideration. They are very helpful in all leprosies of a secreting nature. Saribadi Bati is a medicine that cures blood poisoning and all leprosies. In the morning and evening Basarudra Taila ( cooked in cow urine) or Guruchyadi Taila should be massaged on the wounds for one hour. Brihat Marichyadi Taila, Brihat Somaraji Taila, Maharudra Taila, etc. may also be used. Kandarpasar Taila is exceptionally good. As for Ghritas, the following are recommended: Panchatikta Ghrita and Panchatikta Ghrita-guggulu, Somaraji Ghrita etc. Ghritas and Tailas are excellent for leprosy after the worst features have been overcome and digestion is good. For loss of appetite prescribe Bhaskar Lavan, Mahasa nkha Bati, Nripatiballav, etc. Rajrajeswar is a powerful drug against leprosy ; it should be taken orally. Leucoderma is called Switrakustha in Ayurveda. For it, Swetari Ras with Ghrita and honey are to be taken, and Swetari Prolep should be rubbed on the spot.
Diet: Food should be nutritious and stimulant. Give rice (old stock ), lentils (mugh, mushuri, gram, and maskalai ), fish soup (kai, magur, shingi, and khalisha), the brain of the rohit fish, meat soup, butter, curd, pomegranate, pears, and custard apple. At night luchi or wheat bread, roshagollas and milk, ghee, flour, sooji, and sugar preparations may be given. Sesame oil should be rubbed on the body, and bathing should preferably be done in the river and open air. If there is temperature and cough, bathing is not allowed. Avoid putting him in damp places, and keep him from excessive thinking, fear, sorrow, anger, agony, staying awake at night, intoxicants, and suppression of excretions.
