Diseases In Pregnancy

During pregnancy women suffer from a variety of complaints. The ailments are sometimes so severe that the woman becomes unnerved and thinks she is going to die. The pregnant woman should use the following treatments according to ailment.

 

Swooning- Cold water should be sprinkled on face, eyes and head. Murchhantak Ras should be taken. Santi Bati is also good.

 

Retching- In the first stages give Pranballav Ras. For excessive vomiting give Chandrakanti Ras. This may also be given if there is fever with the vomiting. Pippaladya Lauha is another medicine for bad vomiting. It can also cure fever, breathing troubles, bad taste, burning, and constipation.

 

Hiccough- Sringadi Churna and Swashara Jog. Constipation-Kosthasuddhi Modak.

 

Loss of appetite-Bhaskar Lavan and Brihat Agni- kumar Ras.

 

Vertigo- Butter and sugar candy in the morning; in the evening Swarnasindur with honey and water washed in rice. Santi Bati.

 

Diarrhoea- Brihat Jirakadi Modak

 

Dysentery- Kutajabaleha, or Sidhha Praneswar. In blood dysentery or bad diarrhoea give extract of menispermum glabrum, with Swarnasindur or Mahagandhak.

 

Acidity- Labangadi Churna.

 

Headache- Sirasulantak Jog, Maha Lakshmibilas or Naradiya Maha Lakshmibilas.

 

Dropsy- Punarnbasab; Nabayas Lauha if there is dropsy with jaundice and paleness.

 

Urticaria- Eladi Gurika.

 

Fever- Sarbajwara Bati in first stage, then Garva- binode Ras or Brihat Garva Chintamani. The last is a tonic made of gold and silver.

 

Body pain- Bat Gajankus if due to rheumatism; Brihat Bat Chintamani if it is due to excessive gas. If there are biliary symptoms, give Brihat Guruchyadi Lauha.

 

Toothache- Brush the teeth with Sadhana Dasan or Dasan Sangskar Churna. Apply Dantole to the aching place.

 

Excessive salivation- Brihat Garva Chintamani.

 

Heartburn- Labangadi Churna and Sulantak Jog.

 

Insomnia- Brihat Bat Chintamani is to be taken, and Pusparaj Prasarani Taila is to be rubbed on the head. Santi Bati is also useful.

 

Heart-throb- Arjunarista or Arjun Ghrita.

 

Cough and Phlegm- Chandramrita Ras, Brihat Khadir Bati.

 

Indolence and Weakness- Indusekhar Ras.

 

Soothing pains- Kubja Prasarani Taila should be massaged on the afflicted limbs at the time of pain and cramping. If there is burning in hands and feet, give Brihat Guruchyadi Lauha and rub the places with Brihat Guruchyadi Taila.

 

N.B.- Pregnant women usually have some troubles; they should not be without medication at the time. Kasturi Ghatita Dasamularista is good all pregnant women. It prevents all sorts of troubles. During pregnancy women are afflicted with excessive air, bile, and phlegm. Dasamularista kills unbalance in the three temperamental factors. So Dasamularista is the best medicine to preserve sound health.

 

Diet for pregnant women: The diet should be carefully thought out. Don’t give always the same foods. Usually women at this time have a distaste for meat and fish. Don’t force them to eat such foods. According to circumstance, give kai, magur, katla, singhi, pabda, and khalisha fishes, mutton, aram, ol, patal, potatoes, figs, gourd, green banana; eggplant, jhingey, cucumber, pumpkin, leaf stems, kernel of banana stem, memordica charantia, soft part of rattan plant; helencha leaves, musuri, mugh, arahar, and gram lentils, milk, ghee, butter, sugar candy, etc. When her taste goes bad, give sun-dried mango juice, aged tamarind, slices of dried mango, lemon, hog-plum, etc. In constipation give her milk with raisins. Pomegranate, sweet mango, jack- fruit, cocoanut, dates, custard apple, figs, papaya, etc. are good. During pregnancy no sexual intercourse should be allowed. As the fetus becomes bigger, there is every danger of abortion, womb injury, death, and the birth of an imbecile, blind, deaf, dumb, hump-backed, or otherwise defective child if intercourse is indulged.
